After each team scored an early run, the Sox and Rays went 10 scoreless innings. The bullpens combined for 13 scoreless innings, following excellent outings by each starter. For the Rays, Andy Sonnanstine went 7 innings, giving up only 4 hits, and Josh Beckett gave up 6 hits in 6 innings for the Red Sox. Each of them fanned 7.
MVP candidate Dustin Pedroia had 2 hits and an RBI for the Sox, but Jason Bay went 0-7, and left 7 runners on base. The teams combined for a ridiculous 52 LOB, as each team got out of several jams throughout the game.
