As I'm sure you probably know, Canada is often the butt of a number of jokes here in the US. Maybe it's because Canadians say "eh" after every sentence or maybe it's because their greatest contributions to the world are Molson Ice and Steve Nash.Hilariously though, Major League Baseball also seems to have it out for Canadians. How so? This is almost so weird it defies comprehension.
MLB is having a contest where you can sign up to win a trip to the 2008 All Star Game Home Run Derby. There you'll get the chance to tell Big Papi to hit a home run. If he hits a home run, you win a Tahoe Hybrid.
Sweet right? Well, yes, if you're an American. But if you're a Canadian, you better take a look at the almost impossible to read fine print at the bottom of the page. And here's what it says:
If a resident of Canada is a potential winner, to win he/she must correctly answer, unaided, a mathematical skill question administered by telephone. What the hell? So even though this is a contest to go to the All Star Home Run Derby, MLB feels it's necessary to test a Canadian's skill at multi-variable calculus.
Anyway, I guess if MLB wants a Canadian free All Star Game this makes sense. After all, we all know Canadians can't do math.
