Real Madrid finally sees “the real Gareth” in 7-3 hammering of Sevilla
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti was full of praise for Gareth Bale after a 7-3 win over Sevilla on Wednesday. The Italian tactician was exuberant over the Welshman’s performance in the high-scoring game.
Ancelotti suggests Bale is finally living up to expectations. With two assists and two goals against Sevilla, the Wales international was seen running around in mesmerizing form. Bale’s disturbing performances and troubles no longer appeared to be a problem, but only a chapter from the past.
Ancelotti was full of praise for Bale in his interview after the game. The former AC Milan manager told reporters that Bale’s performance showed that the former Tottenham Hotspur star was adapting to life at La Liga.
“Tonight everyone saw the real Gareth,” Ancelotti said. “He played really well, showing fantastic skills. It takes time [to adapt] but it was a necessity. Now he doesn't have problems physically and he is improving his confidence, so he will be very important for us in the future.”
Real Madrid’s scoreline also saw Cristiano Ronaldo pick up a hat-trick and Karim Benzema break his goal drought with a brace. Real Madrid’s ultra-attacking display helped overcome their defensive errors in the night.
Sevilla made valiant efforts at tipping the scoreline into their favor, but Real Madrid’s defense adapted to their tactics. Meanwhile, the attack kept on hammering in goals.
“It was a bit of a crazy game, we started very well and were 3-0 up,” Ancelotti said. “We then lost a bit of concentration and balance and the game was alive again. Offensively we played very well, we scored a lot of goals. We had a lot of good individual performances, especially up front.”
Xabi Alonso also returned to the Real Madrid team after spending more than five months on the bench because of injuries. Ancelotti claims Alonso’s return to be a huge boost for Real Madrid.
“We need to give him minutes, he was desperate to play and I think he is ready to play from the beginning,” Ancelotti said. “He has done everything he needs to be physically ready and he is a player that doesn't need the physical conditioning of others because he has so many other qualities.”
