Real Madrid star Sami Khedira reveals last-minute bid from Manchester United
Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has revealed that Manchester United made a last-minute attempt to sign him in. The German center midfielder has confirmed that a bid from Manchester United appeared on the table just before the transfer window closed.
Real Madrid took little time to think before rejecting the €40 million offer from Manchester United. However, their rejection came after Khedira announced that he had no desire to leave Bernabeu.
Real Madrid were busy with the hustle and bustle of putting things together for Gareth Bale’s arrival during the last moment of the transfer window, but that’s not the reason for putting of Manchester United.
Real Madrid’s midfield maestro Xabi Alonso has been sidelined because of long term injury and with Kaka and Mesut Ozil gone, manager Carlo Ancelotti has been left with few options to put in the heart of the midfield.
Luka Modric and Khedira are the only experienced players Ancelotti has that can operate with ease in the midfield. Moreover, Khedira himself had shot down rumors of moving away from Real Madrid.
“The club turned down the offer and that was it,” Khedira told reporters at a press conference, whilst on international duty. “We didn’t really have the chance to discuss it. I had a longer chat with Carlo Ancelotti a few weeks ago and it was relatively clear to me that I’d stay at Real.”
The 26-year-old Germany international joined Real Madrid along with compatriot Mesut Ozil after the World Cup in 2010. In the three years since Khedira has cemented his place in Real Madrid’s first-team and has little reason to find excuses to leave the Spanish football giants. As a matter of fact Khedira even feels bad about losing his compatriot Ozil.
“Personally, I feel bad about Mesut’s transfer,” Khedira said. “We are very, very good friends. “His departure is a loss also from a sporting perspective. Mesut can make the difference.”
Khedira also revealed that Ozil’s last-minute move to Arsenal came as no surprise to him since his teammate had told him about the move a couple of days before the transfer.
“I heard about this two or three days before Monday. Mesut had told me about it,” Khedira added.
