
Real Madrid might be favorites to sign in Luka Modric, but that doesn’t mean they are battling for the transfer rights for the world class midfielder. The Croatia international has become a hot transfer prospect in Europe following stunning performances for club and country.
Real Madrid officials have confirmed Luka Modric as a transfer target, but they have also confirmed rivaling interest for the 26-year-old midfielder from Paris Saint-Germain. The French outfit is preparing for a last minute swoop for the Tottenham Hotspur player.
Following yearlong speculation about Luka Modric’s new home, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United were the only teams left battling for Croatian. Eventually, Real Madrid and Manchester United battled alone for Luka Modric.
With a deadlock between the two clubs and continuous rise in Luka Modric’s price Manchester United decided to back out from signing Luka Modric. However, Paris Saint-Germain managed by Carlo Ancelotti was just waiting for such an opportunity.
Paris Saint-Germain immediately showed interest in Luka Modric and promised a large bid to the money-hungry Tottenham Hotspur. Luka Modric prefers a move to Real Madrid, but Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy will sell Luka Modric to the highest bidder.
Luka Modric nearly inked a long term contract with Chelsea last summer. This summer rife rumors suggest Luka Modric has already put pen to paper for a four-year contract with Real Madrid.
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho sees Luka Modric as a replacement for his Brazilian star Kaka. The former AC Milan midfielder has opted for an exit from Santiago Bernabeu. Kaka’s exit could insure first team action for Luka Modric too.
Real Madrid’s assistant manager Aitor Karanka believes Luka Modric will be in Spain this season. In an interview to AS Aitor Karanka extolled Luka Modric and informed that Real Madrid was working with Kaka for a transfer move.
“Which club would not want a player like Modric? He is an outstanding footballer,” Aitor Karanka said. “It is clear that he would fit in at Madrid.”
“Kaka and the club are working to find a good solution for all parties,” Aitor Karanka added.
Tottenham Hotspur have already shot down a £25 million transfer offer from Real Madrid for Luka Modric. According to reports from England, Tottenham Hotspur are demanding a bid of £30-million-plus for Luka Modric. Paris Saint-Germain will come up with their bid in the next couple of days.
