Red Bull have had three perfect weekends –Alonso finally senses the fear of Vettel
The Red Bull team is on fire! For the past three weekends, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber have been recording top notch results for Red Bull. Sebastian Vettel’s third successive victory at the Korean Grand Prix on Sunday allowed him to overtake Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso as the Championship leader.
After weeks of being the sole contender for the Championship title, Fernando Alonso is finally sensing the need to go into panic. Sebastian Vettel, who was down and under just a couple of weeks ago, is now leading the Drivers Standings with 215 points. Fernando Alonso is second placed six points below him.
Red Bull is in paradise right now. Apart from the good results Sebastian Vettel is posting in his “perfect car”, the RB8, his teammate Mark Webber came second at the Korean Grand Prix. Both men gave a good demonstration of how powerful their cars were at the Yeongam circuit on Sunday.
Fernando Alonso, who still seems satisfied on the outside from the results of the race, acknowledges the advantage Red Bull has over Ferrari.
“It’s true that Red Bull was quickest all weekend, but our aim was to be right behind them and we achieved that,” Fernando Alonso said. “It’s also true that I am no longer leading the championship, but being six points down does not mean much, just as it did not mean much being four points up going into this race.”
“It is also very significant that we are back in second place in the constructors’, as it means the team is on the case and that will be our strong point from now until the end of the season.”
Lady Luck has been quite cruel to Fernando Alonso in the last couple of races. The Spaniard only managed to finish two of his last four races, because of collisions. These DNFs have played a huge role in Fernando Alonso dropping points.
“Being in this position having pretty much skipped two races out of the last four says a lot. There are a hundred points up for grabs and everything will depend on how much we can improve over the coming races,” Fernando Alonso said. “Here we were much closer to the lead than we were in Singapore and nearer than in Suzuka, so we must continue in this direction.”
Fernando Alonso went on to admit Red Bull had luck on their side. Well, Red Bull has been travelling over calm seas lately. Nonetheless, Fernando Alonso declared his car was the fastest Ferrari, which is why he had a good chance of winning the Championship.
“Vettel’s three wins in a row? Well, he and Red Bull have had three perfect weekends so congratulations for that, but when everything goes smoothly for so long, inevitably sooner or later something has to happen,” Fernando Alonso said. “We are right in the fight for the title with a car that has never been the fastest. It seems we are capable of doing something good too, don’t you think.”
