Redskins Run Swinging Gate Play Before Halftime
NFL

So... Can We Fire Jim Zorn Yet?

12/22/09 in NFL   |   Pat   |   5233 respect

I have no idea why Jim Zorn still has a job right now, but it's almost laughable. As Fanhouse's Adam Gretz implies, it's like he's TRYING to get fired, with plays like this.

Just a quick question... who were the linemen supposed to be blocking? And how was Hunter Smith supposed to get off a pass, with the entire Giants' secondary and linebackers clogging up the area of the field where all of the eligible receivers are, and 3 defensive linemen rushing against only one blocker... who ends up pulling up and going out as a receiver anyway.

This play is just a complete disaster, on all counts. I realize the game was out of hand, but is Jim Zorn just messing with us now? Just get him out of there, before this gets any uglier for the Redskins.

I didn't know that.  Doesn't say much for Lewis, I guess, if they decided he wasn't as "good" as Zorn???

"I think" it was a matter of him not knowing the players as well as he might, just yet. I'm not exactly sure what his true position with the team is. So much was made of his hiring, but there hasn't been much talk of him after that.

As I said, I didn't see the game, but I understood that Sherm was calling the plays for the first couple of weeks way back when after he was hired, but when his calls didn't bring about any immediate results, the "honors" went back to Zorn, who "knows his players better".  Now, I will try to find out for sure, but that was my understanding.

It may have been the worst "trick play" to ever see the field.  Maybe it was designed to put Hunter Smith into the ER.

Do we know that Zorn called the play, or was it Sherm Lewis?  (My question is sincere, not sarcastic.)  Lewis' hiring as an offensive consultant / play-caller about 2 months ago makes me wonder...is Zorn the one who is to blame for that play being called???

I'm still reeling over this debacle.  I can't say what I really want to say, so I'll just say I'm glad I'm broke; otherwise, the only players I'd have left would be Brian Orakpo and London Fletcher.  Everybody else would be GONE!

Maybe Jim picked up his nephews pee-wee play book by mistake or maybe the giants defense could see the skins offense draw the plays on the ground with a stick like we all did at the park. remember? Or is just our great Indian-American trying to tell them something about the logo on their helmets.maybe! Making it rain is probably NOT the only thing they can do......

I agree. He's daring them to pull the trigger. He should build a 35 point lead and then blow it in the fourth quarter. There's NO way a coach wouldn't get fired for that. ...Wait. What?

All I know is this. I was playing in my Fantasy league's semifinal game. After Sunday's games, I had a 12 point lead. I figured I was safe and heading to the championship game next week. But we each had a player remaining. My opponent had Steve Smith, and I had Washington DST.

Smith = 10 pts.
Redskins = -5 pts.

And I lose by 3 pts.

And so my team, featuring the likes of Tony Romo, Chris Johnson, Thomas Jones, and Larry Fitzgerald, will play no more thanks to that craptastic performance. All they had to do is not get NEGATIVE points. Even a ZERO would have still won the game for me!

(/rant)

 and im in my title game as an 8 seed (5-8) with aaron rodgers and chris johnson
love 0:25 "this is embarassing!"

Yep...I thought Sherm Lewis was the play-caller.

I was working while this was happening, but reading the reactions on my Twitter timeline was hilarious.  After finally seeing the play, I now fully understand the disbelief.

Jim Zorn is living proof that some people can keep a job,even though they don't have a clue as to what's going on!

I love Tirico just mocking them live.  I know Hunter Smith is probably their best offensive threat, but WTF?

seriously.  most idiotic comments ever.  should have just said we made a bad call instead of sticking with the "it was a great call but the defense was so too good" line.

All i know is that they have 2 different play callers in the booth...one guy  for a run play and one for a pass play....they are all sorts of messed up in Washington....hopefully next week will be a easy win for the Boys!

 I find it laughable that any of you think this is Zorn's fault.  Guy never should have been a head coach to begin with, yet SNYDER made him one.  Guy has basically had the play calling taken away from him, which I'm sure came from SNYDER.  Who cares if he is trying to get fired, doesn't he get paid more if he does than if he resigns.  And I'm sure SNYDER wants to pay as little as he possibly can to anyone.  Leave Zorn alone, all he did was take a paycheck that any of us would probably kill for right now.

Considering the kind of activity we've seen out of D.C. lately .... was it really that much of a stretch to see the Skins play this one on their knees?   LOL

Many of us know the old Italian saying "A fish rots from the head down" and the Vinny Cerrato out, Bruce Allen in is a good step, but imagine if Norv Turner had been left in place to build or Marty Schottenheimer and they had built via the draft rather than  assembling one of the most absurd collections of past-their-prime future Hall of Famers and other assorted graybeards and turning the organization over every year or two; where would they be?  Not looking like a mid-level FCS team, I'd hope but that's what they looked like last night, that team would've  finished in middle of the Ohio Valley Conference.

 How this man remains employed is beyond me. My theory is that he has compromising photos of Dan Snyder and Al Davis together.
