According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Jason Kidd will be the next head coach of the Brooklyne Nets.  The contract is reportedly for the next three years and the terms of the contract are expected to be made as early as this week.
Jason Kidd was a player less than one month ago and therefore, has zero coaching experience.  However, Kidd has the basketball IQ and respect to be a successful head coach.  What Kidd may not have yet is the professionalism that comes with being a head coach.  It was just last summer that Kidd was arrested on a DUI charge, which may have been tolerated as a player, but will not be tolerated from a head coach.

The Nets will still talk to Brian Shaw, in order to say that they have done their due diligence.  However, this may be just formality at this point, since they have a deal already set in place for Kidd.

It's really an odd hire when you think about how the Nets under Mikhail Prokhorov are in a "win-now" mode

Smart move by the Nets as a way to get New Yorkers more involved with the team.  He'll have a short honeymoon period based on what happened this season - not an easy thing to walk into.
