Mandatory Credit: Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY SportsA few days ago, New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton was asked if he was surprised that his defensive coordinator Rob Ryan hasn't garnered any interest as a head coach this offseason and Payton admitted he was and that he believes Rob has what it takes to be a great coach. After all, Rob did turn around a historically bad Saints defense into one of the leagues best in just one year.

“I think he’s going to be a head coach,” Payton said of Ryan.  “I think he’s got a personality that starts with being passionate about the game.  He’s also exceptional within the framework of the staff and I think as owners and General Managers look closely at candidates, there’s a handful of things that would be important and compatibility ranks right there at the top.

“So he’s someone that is very well liked within the building from the business side to the football side.  I think he’s got a great way about getting the players to play hard, making it exciting and putting them in the best positions possible and again communicating that message with his staff.  It’s been a team effort on that side of the ball and I think that here’s a guy that grew up around football and those experiences are invaluable.”

But not everyone agrees. In fact, ESPN's NFL Insiders Monday, Chris Mortensen reported Rob Ryan's long hair is considered an impediment to landing a head-coaching job. Wow.

I get it. I know the NFL is a business and I'm not sure whether Rob wont cut his hair but this is silly to me. I'm sure Rob wont let a haircut ruin his chance at his dream. Unless he is as crazy as his brother is at times. Gotta love the Ryan's!
