Rich "I'll Be At West Virginia A Very Long Time" Rodriguez Is Headed To Michigan
A year after committing long term to his alma mater, Rich Rodriguez is headed to Michigan. What else would we expect from the coaching profession?
"In an early afternoon meeting with his football team, Rodriguez announced he was leaving to become the head coach at Michigan, the Charleston Gazette reported. He walked into a scheduled 1:30 p.m. meeting with his team and emerged 10 minutes later without comment.

Players filed out somberly and without comment, the Gazette reported."
Michigan gets their coach, a good one at that, and West Virginia is forced to replace another hot coaching commodity that has left for Ann Arbor.

The most interesting aspect of this move is how Rodriguez transitions his offense into the Wolverines. They're not exactly set up for the spread offense. Wouldn't be surprised to see Ryan Mallet transfer, and Michigan fans might not mind.

It's Rodriguez [TheWolverine]

I'm almost ready to believe that it won't be Les Miles.

As a Wolverine fan, I am excited about this. I hope Rod angles the offense to what he ran as a the OC at Tule. Spread attack, but more of a pass offense.

So who wants the West Virginia job?  Whoever takes it could definitely outperform Michigan in Rodriguez's first year there.

I wonder if they'll look at Central Michigan's coach who used to be an assistant there and runs the same offense to a degree. It's be a bit of a risk and not a big name, but a seemless transistion.

I'm not sad to see Rodriquez go.  However, I think he's missing out on a wonderful opportunity to build a dynasty at West Virginia.  I know Michigan is offering him more money, but if he can't live on his salary at WV, then he needs a good whack in the head.

So does that push the line for the Fiesta Bowl even more in Oklahoma's favor? It will be interesting to see if Mallet is the future at Michigan because he is pretty similar to Henne in their playing styles.

Are the Wolverine fans down on Mallett? The kid seemed to have a big arm and played pretty decently for a true frosh from the little I saw.

Big arm, great potential, but an even bigger attitude in my mind.  I know its wrong to really root against someone individually, but I'd hate to see him succeed.

He's got a bit of an attitude, but I think the kid will be a star. I just depends on the system the new coach runs. If he runs the Pat White style offense then Mallett won't work, he is too slow. If Rodriguez runs the offense he ran at Tulane (Shaun King led the NCAA is passing) or when he started at Glenville State (averaged 50 passing attempts per game) Mallett will be a great fit. I think, unless they get a stud recruit that can run, you'll see Mallett in the shotgun with 4 wr's a lot next year and putting up huge numbers.

He has star quality & I think he has a streak in him that Henne never did. They will find a way to use him....unless the trump card is put down, i.e.-Terrelle Pryor. If this kid finds his way to Ann Arbor...and he's not on the OSU bus....we're in business folks...
