But sometimes, he absolutely hits the nail on the head. And that's what happened yesterday, when he responded to the epic battle that went down on ESPN's First Take morning show between Richard Sherman and Skip Bayless.
Sherman went on the show and made it clear in no uncertain terms that he's tired of Bayless' trolling schtick.
Bayless has been critical of everyone over the course of the show, from Sherman to LeBron James. He certainly has his favorites, and he makes no attempt to hide it.
Sometimes, Bayless has valid points. But most of the time, he's just an attention whore who will say anything to get people going.
Sherman is obviously tired of that, and wanted to take his time on the show to let Bayless know, and do his best to completely embarrass him.
In case you missed it, check it out here, via BSO:
It worked, since most people would agree that Sherman "won" the exchange with Bayless, calling him "ignorant, pompous, and egotistical," among other things.
Bill Simmons would disagree with the statement that Sherman won, however. He actually tweeted about it, and criticized First Take, which is something that most ESPN employees wouldn't even have the freedom to do.
Simmons is absolutely right this time. Many people watch First Take because there are controversial arguments about hot sports topics. But at the end of the day, just realize that Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith are just trolling you, and 90% of the time, at least one of them doesn't even really believe the words that are coming out of his mouth.
If you enjoy that type of thing, then have at it. But keep in mind that there are, as Simmons says, like 800 channels out there. Check out the Dan Patrick Show, or NFL AM. Or even Sportscenter, if you want to check out highlights from the day before.
It's time for people to get smarter about what they watch, and leave First Take where it belongs: Off your televisions.
