Roger Goodell has decided to reinstate Ricky Williams back into the NFL after an 18-month suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Williams last tested positive in April which extended what was to be just a year-long penalty.
No Ricky jokes here, I actually like the guy quite a bit and believe he had a difficult anxiety disorder to overcome and simply went about the wrong way. All accounts are that he's made great strides in dealing with his issue and more than deserves another chance.
So what's next?
Cam Cameron hasn't given any indication Williams is in his long term plans (might not be that long after all) with the Dolphins, but at 0-9 and short on running back he may reconsider. I still think it's highly unlikely the Dolphins organization is willing to take that chance.
Since the trade deadline has already passed the most likely scenario is that Ricky Williams will be moved this offseason. Any guesses as to where the former Heisman winner will take his next carry?
The league is chalk full of teams in need of a complimentary running back, which is all I can envision him being at this stage. Would you want your team to "take a chance" on Williams?
