Mandatory Credit: Stew Milne-USA TODAY SportsAfter 6 weeks of frustration and an inordinate amount of offensive ineptitude by the Patriots, the long wait is over.

Rob Gronkowski has been cleared to play on Sunday against the Jets.

His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, revealed to multiple media outlets via text that his client was now cleared to play. This means he will almost certainly be on the field on Sunday, although Patriots coach Bill Belichick declined to comment on the injury status of any of the Patriots players this morning.

This is huge news for the Patriots, who have struggled offensively throughout the season, particularly in the red zone. That's where Gronk has excelled over the past few years, and I'm sure he'll be able to be a significant factor immediately for the team.

Gronk's ability to create matchup nightmares for the Jets, particularly near the end zone, could have a huge impact on Sunday's game and change the way the Patriots offense operates both in the red zone and out of it.

This is great news for the Patriots and their fans, and hopefully the offense starts looking more like we expected it to.

I think Belichick is probably furious that Rosenhaus leaked that. But I also think that Bill Belichick's #1 priority in life is winning football games, and Rob Gronkowski gives him a better chance to do that.

Yeah, I know. But I seem to recall Wes Welker getting benched for a portion of a game after making a bunch of "foot" jokes at Rex Ryan's expense. And we all know (especially now) that Welker always gave the Pats a better chance to win.

Especially division rivals, and definitely the Jets in particular.

Pat, do you think Belichick is the kinda guy who will be offended that Rosenhaus is making this announcement (rather than, say, the head coach) and not play Gronk out of spite? Jeez, I hope not.
