Robbie Lawler and Scott Smith had the chance once again to fight for the Elite XC middleweight championship, and this time Lawler didn't need to poke Smith in the eye to retain his belt.
In the second round, Lawler absolutely punished Smith with knees to the midsection before one connected that sent Smith to the floor. From there, that was pretty much all she wrote.
The question, of course, will be how good the ratings were for Elite XC's second showing on CBS, which we'll have to wait a bit for. There were good performances all around tonight, which should help increase the sport's appeal to those who watched. But if there weren't many people watching, then it won't matter very much.
There's also the question of how legit Elite XC is, and after having recently watched Anderson Silva - the best middleweight MMA fighter in world - start his march up the UFC light heavyweight ladder a few weeks ago, it's clear Elite XC isn't even close to UFC in terms of the quality of its fighters.
Lawler would literally be picked apart by Silva. But, as I said before, that won't matter much at all if people are tuning in to watch Elite XC on a consistent basis.
Fortunately for Elite XC, their next event - in October - features Kimbo Slice and Gina Carano, who are the league's two biggest stars.
The 2nd go round wasn't a bad fight. Not as good as the 1st one IMO. It was a shame that one got stopped because it was a great fight up to the 3rd rd. I agree with you tho, Silva would crush either one of these guys, what he did in his last fight was frightening.
