Sir Alex Ferguson believes Manchester United will win the battle to sign Arsenal ace Robin van Persie. The Scotsman has been in pursuit of the Arsenal captain and striker ever since the beginning of the summer transfer window.
Robin van Persie was inclined towards a move to Manchester City till two weeks ago, but the Netherlands international failed to agree upon the final terms of his contract with Manchester City.
At this point Robin van Persie, snubbed a move to Juventus and decided to enter into negotiations with Manchester United. Officials from Old Trafford have informed that Robin van Persie will become Manchester United’s biggest signing this summer.
Robin van Persie has been in spectacular form for Arsenal as of late. The 29-year-old leveled Alan Shearer’s record of most goals in a calendar year in 2011. Last season, Robin van Persie appeared in 48 games to score 37 goals and make 15 assists. Robin van Persie was the cornerstone behind Arsenal’s success last season.
According to media reports, Robin van Persie will put pen to paper with Manchester Untied during the next 48 hours. This news comes after Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini confirmed that the Eastlands were out of the race for Robin van Persie. Sir Alex Ferguson has been an avid admirer of Robin van Persie, ever since the Dutchman set his foot in the English Premier League.
“We have made a bid and they've been trying to negotiate with other clubs,” Sir Alex Ferguson said following his side’s pre-season friendly game against Barcelona. “I don't have a gut feeling on it at the moment, I must admit. We're not getting any breakthrough with Arsenal.
“It's difficult to say why they're operating this way. I don't know what their thoughts are because they're not giving anything away. I can't give you any more information. We just have to persevere. We are trying our best and hopefully it will come our way but there's no progress at this moment in time.”
Manchester United has suffered a couple losses in the football market this season. Manchester United lost the race to sign Luka Modric to Real Madrid before losing Lucas Moura to Paris Saint-Germain.
“I find it quite amazing that a club can pay €45 million for a 19-year-old boy,” Sir Alex Ferguson said. “To tell everyone that PSG are here they've signed Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. They must have spent about £150 million in the last month.
“The only deterrent to that is UEFA. In the conditions of European football, you don't qualify for Europe by winning the league or coming second - you only get in by invitation. That's where, hopefully, UEFA can have some power. When somebody's paying €45 million for a 19-year-old boy you have to say the game's gone mad.”
