Rockets Sign Ronnie Brewer Wednesday
After the Houston Rockets made the biggest signing of the summer in Dwight Howard, they are now working on deepening their bench. The Rockets were forced to play their starting five a gluttony of minutes last year, which may have hurt them towards the end of the year. Jeremy Lin, for example, was hobbled during the playoffs and was clearly not at full strength.
So, Daryl Morey made another big deal this past Wednesday with the signing of veteran wingman Ronnie Brewer. Brewer has never been an offensive force in the NBA, but he’s a proven wing defender that is capable of playing the two and the three. At 6’7, Brewer provides size and speed to guard some of the best wing players in the league.
And with Houston, that is all he will be asked to do. Brewer only averaged 3ppg last year, but with James Harden on the floor, he won’t have to shoot anyway. Furthermore, if he gets beat on the perimeter, he now has Dwight Howard to funnel his opponents to, making the Houston Rockets a team to contend with.
