The hulk of a quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Ben Roethlisberger has announced that a sprain in his left ankle can’t keep him from playing in the season finale against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. This is not the first instance Roethlisberger has played with an injury.

Earlier in the season, Roethlisberger refused to be benched and carried out his duties in spite of a sprained wrist and a rib injury.

"As long as I can deal with pain, I'll be out there," Roethlisberger said in an interview on Thursday. "I don't want to let the guys down, so I'll do what I can to be out there."

Roethlisberger, was absent from the 23-0 victory over the St. Louis Rams last week. Now, Roethlisberger seems to have recovered from his injury as he fully participated in the team practice on Thursday.

Surprising as this may sound, Roethlisberger actually looks in good shape to play on Sunday. Nonetheless, Roethlisberger admitted that his ankle was still “a little sore”. Roethlisberger sprained his ankle on December 8, when the Steelers last met the Browns. They defeated them at that instant too, with the final score board showing 14-3.

Steelers’ offensive coordinator Bruce Arians told media in his news conference that he had a lot of confidence in Roethlisberger’s ability to play on Sunday. Arians told media that Roethlisberger had improved his ability to move a lot in Thursday’s team practice.

Arians also confirmed that Roethlisberger will play if proves himself healthy.

"I want him out there but not at the risk of injuring himself," Arians said. "If he can't move around and get out of the way, there's no sense in getting him out there."

There will be a lot at stake when the Steelers travel to the Cleveland Browns Stadium on Sunday. The Steelers are 11-4 and still in hunt for the AFC North Championship. In order to acquire it, the Steelers need to win against the Browns and have their fingers crossed over the Cincinnati Bengals defeating the Baltimore Ravens.

In case of Roethlisberger’s absence, veteran Charlie Batch who threw for 208 yards in Steelers’ victory over the Rams would be used as replacement.
