I imagine Roger Clemens is seeking a lot of advice these days. With last week's affair-a-day onslaught, it was time the Rocket come forward and at least say something. Everyone agrees that if Roger just stepped forward and told the truth he would salvage as least some respect with the public. In a statement given to the Houston Chronicle, Clemens tried to clear the air, but unfortunately he's gone the Jason Giambi route.
"I know that many people want to know what I have to say about the recent articles in the media. Even though these articles contain many false accusations and mistakes, I need to say that I have made mistakes in my personal life for which I am sorry. I have apologized to my family and apologize to my fans. Like everyone, I have flaws. I have sometimes made choices which have not been right."Ah yes, the classic Giambino apology.
I think we know what Roger is referring to here, much like we did with Jason. He's sorry for nailing numerous women not named Debbie Clemens and failing to be able to effectively cover the affairs up. It's the latter portion of that sentence he's truly sorry about.
Roger would now like is to simply ignore the more accusations that will follow and let him deal with this in private.
"I realize that many people want me to simply confess and apologize for the conduct that I have been accused of, but I cannot confess to, nor apologize for, things I did not do."I have apologized to my family for my mistakes. And having offered this apology to the public, I would ask that you let me and my family deal with these matters in private."Good luck with that.
