Roger Federer slayed his greatest demon on Sunday by winning the French Open. Federer beat Robin Soderling 6-1, 7-6, 6-4.

That gives Federer 14 Grand Slam titles, tying him with Pete Sampras. But more importantly, Federer has won every Grand Slam at least once. Sampras never won the French Open.

Obviously, Federer benefitted from Rafael Nadal losing to Soderling earlier in the tournament, and while it would have been great to see Federer knock off Nadal for the French Open title, at least we got to see Federer beat the guy who actually beat Nadal.

Also, I should note that Federer did all of this despite being sort of attacked by a fan. In the second game a guy ran onto the court and tried to put a hat on Federer's head. Here are some pics of that.



 

Yep, not even crazed fans could stop Federer today.

Yes, no question. Nadal did not take care of business.  Not Roger's problem.  Sampras, Agassi and Laver move over there is an undisputed Champion, his name:  Roger Federer. 

Agassi won the French and a gold medal without Sampras around, does that make it any different?  Nope, but Agassi will always trump Sampras because Pete never won the French and Agassi even pulled off a gold medal.  Federer, Agassi and Sampras.  1-2-3.

Federer is the best. Tying with Samaras plus winning each grand Slam once proves it entirely. He may have had a couple of mess-ups, losing to Nadal, but no one's perfect. No one's perfect, but Federer is pretty darn close.

I totally agree, congrats Roger... You are one of the best of all time... Not the best of all time but one of the best..  I dont think he wouldve won if Nadal wouldve been there but Nadal does have a knee injury so maybe this wouldve been his opportunity to overpower Nadal.  Then again maybe not...
