After a brilliant performance against Barcelona in Copa del Rey, Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas predicts Cristiano Ronaldo to be in the spotlight against Manchester United when the two clubs meet for the second leg of their Round of 16 battle at Old Trafford.
Iker Casillas believes Cristiano Ronaldo will be the difference between Real Madrid and Manchester United on March 5. Cristiano Ronaldo, whose brace against Barcelona at Camp Nou helped Real Madrid reach the Copa del Rey final, has netted 39 goals in 39 appearances this season.
The Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas claims it will be Cristiano Ronaldo who delivers the killing blow to his former club Manchester United next Tuesday. Well, the Portugal international needs to be prepared for an emotional trip to his old home if he wants Real Madrid to progress to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
“Cristiano is vital for us. Right now he's in sensational form and gives us his maximum,” Iker Casillas said. “It will be difficult as they also know how to play and their ground is tough to play at. We have to transfer what we did here at Camp Nou to Old Trafford. It is also 1-1 and we have to score and keep a clean sheet. That's the aim that we're going with.”
The 31-year-old shot-stopper lauded Cristiano Ronaldo for breaking Barcelona’s back in their own back-yard. Barcelona, who are leading La Liga with a 16-point lead over Real Madrid, are the defending champions of Copa del Rey.
Iker Casillas hopes victory over Barcelona will be the turning point of Real Madrid’s season. The Spain international believes the victory will inspire Real Madrid to defeat Manchester United at Old Trafford next week.
“Hopefully this is a turning point to have won this tie and to make it better it was against Barcelona,” Iker Casillas continued. “We played a very good tie all round and this will motivate us to make a good showing of ourselves in other matches. Winning the Champions League is a better possibility than the league, but Real Madrid will fight to the end.
“What we want to do is win and keep cutting their lead. It is a considerable gap, but with the added bonus of our home fans we want to round off the week well.”
