When it comes to adding insult to injury, the Phillies experienced it in pretty much the most literal way possible today.First, the team learned that ace pitcher Roy Halladay will be out 6-8 weeks with a lat strain.
In more bad news, a potential replacement has decided to sign elsewhere.
Roy Oswalt, who was rumored to be deciding between the Phillies, Rangers, Red Sox, Cardinals and Dodgers, has signed with the Rangers.
Oswalt's deal is for $5M for the rest of the year, along with another possible $1M in incentives.
Oswalt wasn't particularly effective in 2011, but in the last half of 2010, he was excellent with the Phillies.
Oswalt will provide the Rangers with a replacement for Neftali Feliz, who just landed on the DL.
The Rangers were already a favorite to win the AL, so this strengthens their long-term depth and could provide a short-term solution for the loss of Feliz.
