Less than 24 hours after the World Series, the Kansas City Royals kicked off the offseason by trading dependable reliever Leo Nunez to the Florida Marlins for power batting first baseman Mike Jacobs.

Jacobs, who hit .247 with a career-high 32 homers and 93 RBI this past season, got a birthday present with a trade to the American League. He enters a battle for time at first and DH with Ryan Shealy, Ross Gload, Billy Butler and Kila Ka'aihue. Jacobs is an added bat to third baseman Alex Gordon and outfielder Jose Guillen.
