Blog Photo - Royals win on a walk-off grand slamThe Kansas City Royals are barely alive in the Wild Card race. By the time they hit extra innings against Texas this afternoon, the Rays and Indians had already won, meaning they couldn't gain a game today. However, after nine scoreless innings against the Rangers, winning today's game on a walk-off grand slam is pretty damn cool. The hero was Justin Maxwell, who is as unlikely a hero as there is on the Royals roster. Here is the video. This ball was just blasted.

The Royals are still 3.5 games back with just 7 to play, but at least they gave their fans a pretty cool memory to end the season, and at least they're going out fighting. I'd much rather have this than what the Orioles are doing right now.

UPDATE: Per Jeff Passan, this was the first walk-off grand slam with two outs in extra innings since Don Buford on September 14, 1967. That was this game for the White Sox against the Indians.
