I'm not sure this story could actually be made up, plus it's not being reported by Chris Mortensen, so we'll believe it to be true. Rudi Johnson had a bizarre first day in Detroit while working out a deal with Matt Millen to become the backup running back behind rookie Kevin Smith. Pro Football Talk sets the scene:
Specifically, and as we’re told by a reliable source (i.e., not the person who told Mort that Joey Harrington had agreed to terms with the Ravens on Monday, or the person who told John Clayton that Todd Bouman had agreed to terms with the Ravens on Tuesday), Johnson left his bags outside CEO Matt Millen’s office while he met with team officials and, ultimately, worked out a deal with the team.
So when Johnson came back to get his bags, they were nowhere to be found. Johnson and Millen were stumped.
Enter the eye in the sky.
The headline gives it away, but yes, Tatum Bell consulted with his kindergarten friends and apparently stole Johnson's bags from the Lions office. Don't worry though, it gets better.
Forgetting about the advances in modern security, Bell quickly departed the Lions facility and dropped the bags off at a random female "acquaintance."
Per the source, Bell took the bags to the house of a female acquaintance. When confronted on the matter, Bell offered up some cockamamie story that he thought the bags belonged to someone he knew. The girl, however, said that she hadn’t seen Bell in several months and he showed up out of the blue and asked her to keep the bags for a while.
Bell was quickly identified by surveillance footage, confronted about the missing bags, and gave some lame ass excuse about how Johnson's bags were stolen. Either PFT is pulling a fast one on it's readers, or Bell just became the starting running back on the NFL's All-Blockhead team.
Now it's easy to see why Bell has had trouble winning over the coaching staffs in Denver and Detroit.
