Russian KHL game called after players accumulate 691 penalty minutes

There's nothing like racking up 691 penalty minutes in a single hockey game

I'm sure most of you are familiar with KHL, the major hockey league over in Russia which has stolen a few NHL players over the years. Well, they're known for than just that now.

Last night, teams Vityaz Chekhov and Avangard Omsk amassed an absurd 691 penalty minutes and the game was called after only three minutes, 39 seconds because neither team had anyone left to play.

Vityaz were fined four-million rubles (US$133,300) and warned they would be thrown out of the league if there were a similar incident in the future, while Siberian team Avangard escaped with a one-million ruble fine, the KHL said on its website.

Jaromir Jagr even threw the gloves down, multiple times. Jagr said "I've never seen a fight like this before."

I especially like the part in the video where the goalie suplexes a dude*.

After 16 years in the US Marine Corps, I would have to say yes to that question.  Not to compare the two, because that would be stupid to compare fighting in hockey to being shot at and returning fire, but I know I will never back down.  But I am defending hockey as NOT being a redneck version of boxing.  I am, and always will be a hockey fan.  I think fighting in most cases helps clean up the game by the players policing their own.  I just wonder where you are getting that I am saying something against hockey.

Hey raptrbreth, Well you must not think before you type in what you want to say. because if you did you'd know that some of the team in the NHL are sending some of their players to the KHL to play. Plus has anyone had the idea that the refs might have lost control of the game. Here's my punishment for the two teamsif I ran the KHL. The fines would be the same as already handed down, this is what I would have add the players that started the whole thing I would have suspend them for 30 games each, every other players would get 1 to 5 games with the teams being aloud to alternate games so they would have enough players to play, Now to the Coaches and the G.M.'s they would get the following punishment each coach would get suspend for 15 games and a $20'000.00 rubles(for those who don't understand that's the money they use in Russia) .

Well it sounded different than what you've said before

Well I wonder how big the fines would be if the same thing happened in the NHL. Plus did the fans get a refund for the game not really happening.

I think they might be on to something, MMA on skates. If Jagr wasn't involved I would have guessed this was a staged fight and not an actualy hockey game.

Also, LOL @ all the gloves on the ice.
