Rutgers coach Kyle Flood announced Sunday that Rutgers freshman cornerback Nadir Barnwell has been charged with a DWI and will be suspended for at least this week's game against Temple. Blog Photo - Rutgers football: Scarlet Knights' CB Nardir Barnwell suspended

Barnwell was hit with driving while intoxicated and careless driving early Sunday morning, according to Tom Luicci of The Star-Ledger. This is obviously a clear "violation of team rules."

"Nadir Barnwell is going to be suspended for this game this week for a violation of team rules,” said Flood during a teleconference. “He won’t be available to us.

“My plans are for it to be through this week,” he continued on Barnwell’s suspension. "But it’s not finalized yet. But it will be for this week.”

It couldn't get much worse for a Rutgers secondary that has already been run through the mill. The Scarlet Knights rank 121st overall in passing yards allowed (320.1 ypg), including 400 yards conceded through the air in last week's 49-14 loss to Houston.

Before Barnwell's suspension, Rutgers had opened with three true freshmen out of four starting quarterbacks against the Cougars. Redshirt freshman Jevon Tyree is expected to see the field in his absence.

Temple passed for 376 yards and five touchdowns in its 59-49 loss to Southern Methodist last weekend.
