Blog Photo - Ryan Dempster gets 5-game suspensionMajor League Baseball announced Tuesday afternoon that Boston Red Sox pitcher Ryan Dempster has been suspended five games for intentionally throwing at the New York Yankees' controversial third baseman, Alex Rodriguez. Yankees' manager Joe Girardi was also fined for his outburst at home plate Brian O'Nora for not ejecting Dempster.

Girardi was ejected from Sunday night's game for his tantrum, after O'Nora decided to just warn both benches and not toss Dempster for repeatedly throwing at A-Rod.

Dempster's suspension begins tonight, unless he decides to appeal the suspension. After Sunday's game Dempster claimed he was just trying to pitch inside on Rodriguez, despite throwing a pitch behind him before nailing him three pitches later, much to the delight of the Boston crowd.

In case you missed it, here is a video of the entire sequence:

What do you think? Do you think that Dempster got the right punishment? Should he have been suspended longer? Shorter?

So he's not going to have to miss a start since Boston can juggle its rotation, and the suspension is *with pay.* What a joke.

Just a reminder, A-Rod will serve his suspension at some point.
