The Los Angeles Lakers have been waiting for rookie Ryan Kelly’s foot to get better since they drafted him in the second round.
While he has made progress, it seems like Ryan won’t be ready for the team by the season opener. Reporter Eric Pincus stated:
“The Lakers drafted Ryan Kelly in the second round primarily for his ability to stretch the floor with his long-range accuracy, but the team has been discouraged by the rookie’s progress during the summer, according to multiple league sources. The Lakers doubt that Kelly, who missed summer league while recovering from multiple foot procedures, will be ready for the start of training camp.”
Once Kelly does come back, it will be interesting to see if he plays at all for a while.
The Lakers got him to use him ASAP, but by the time he’s ready to go, he won’t have had any full practices under his belt and he’ll have to squeeze his way into coach Mike D’Antoni’s rotation.
