Matt Ryan, rookie quarterback and 3rd overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft, led the Atlanta Falcons to a 27-24 win in Lambeau Field today against the Green Bay Packers. Ryan threw for two touchdowns in the victory and is now only one win away from tying Atlanta's win total from all of last year. At 3-2, the Micheal Vick dog fighting scandal is now in the back of everyone's mind as the Matt Ryan era in Atlanta has finally arrived.Ryan knew he had some large shoes to fill coming into a town who still yearned for the playmaking ability of Vick. However, Ryan has silenced most of the nay sayers and critics with only three interceptions thrown in five games, approximately 60 percent of his passes completed, and four touchdowns. They're not daunting numbers by any means but, compared to last year and the horror show put on by the trio of Joey Harrington, Byron Leftwich, and Chris Redman, it's definitely a step in the right direction.
The 3-2 Falcons remain only one game behind the 4-1 Carolina Panthers and are looking for a Tampa Bay loss to force a tie for second place in the NFC South Division. Atlanta has a big game next Sunday at home as the first place Chicago Bears, with one of the toughest defenses in the league, come into the Georgia Dome. With a banged up Chicago Bear secondary, look for Ryan to have a breakout game against the Bears and possibly another win.
