Well, I went to the D Derby last night to see my niece run in the Demolition Derby. Had a very good time. Got to see DerbyOutlaw1 be involved in a race. More on that later. Again, this is a dirt rodeo arena. Before the races started, water was put on the “track”. Lots and lots of water. And when water and dirt mix what do you get? That’s right, lots and lots of mud. Which in turn, makes the track very very slippery.
I know that I have said this before but I’ll say it again. There are only two classes of cars. The “Big” cars and the “Little” cars. My niece drives a “Little” car. From what I understand you don’t take as much of a beating in a little car as you do a big car. My niece participated in a figure 8 race tonight. She managed to stay out of trouble. One thing I can tell you, mud was flying clear up in the stands. Kind of had to duck sometimes to avoid that mud. She didn’t get a trophy but it looked like fun. I almost wish it had been me driving.
There cars there who were running the race in reverse! Can you imagine driving the car backwards for 10 or 15 laps? I couldn’t do it. They also reversed direction on the guys.

OK, now for DerbyOutlaw1 (Pink Team) as viewed by a spectator. You had two teams out there, a Pink Team and a Purple Team. Lined up in two rows, nose to nose. Purple Team one row, Pink Team the other row. Now for a little bit of background about the rules for this race. All the cars had to be 1980 and newer. No welding on these cars except for the safety cages. These are chain and go cars. No driver door hits are allowed. The winner of the race is the last team standing (running). 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and they are off and running. Crash, bang these cars are going every which way into each other. There was mud flying everywhere. By the time the event was over the Purple Team had won.
What a mess. There were tires, axels, mufflers, bumpers and all kinds of car parts all over the track. I wonder if they found all those parts out there?
Also, before I forget DerbyOutlaw is a flagger for the D-Derby. He does a great job.
They had finale for the “Little” cars and a finale for the “Big” cars. The last car running is the winner. That was a blast.
My niece got to run a second event but left the track early. She blew a head gasket. Her and her boyfriend came up into the stands a little later and sat down and talked with us. It was like Aunt Kathy, how would you like to drive my car in a powder puff event. At first, Aunt Kathy is saying no way, no how, not me. See, I was afraid I might get hurt (LOL). But then I got to thinking about it. You know what, I just might regret NOT doing this so guess what, I’m going to do it. That’s right, a female of mumble mumble of age is going to go for it. Nervous? You had better believe it. I’m thinking to myself I can’t believe I’m going to do this. When will the reality set in? Probably when I’m behind the wheel of the car!
