Unlike the Ducks, Southern Methodist doesn't have a break pedal when it comes to slowing down the scoring outpour. Not only are the Mustangs not used to scoring a high amount of points, but they were itching to restore payback to a Houston team that beat them 37-7 last season.
SMU received the win this time around, but the results were a little different.
The Mustangs scored a school-record 72 points on their way to a 30-point drubbing over Houston Thursday night. Quarterback Garrett Gilbert completed 61 percent of his passes for 265 yards and four touchdowns and running back Zach Line rushed for 113 yards and added two more scores.
But the game ball goes to the defense, which took three interceptions and a fumble recovery all the way to the house all while holding the Cougar offense to a mediocre 560 yards.
This entertaining series won't end anytime soon, either, as both schools are headed to the Big East Conference next season.
