Sachin's records in International Cricket - a highlight show

11/16/09 in Cricket   |   aritragupta   |   48 respect

Sachin tendulkar completed 20 immensely succesful years in International Cricket recently. Yet, the murmurs about his real stature, his real achievements go on unabated. Even on this Community we have had people suggesting that Sachin is more hype than performance, more myth than reality. At the other end of the spectrum I hear NDTV India gushing that Sachin Tendulkar holds almost 70 International Records
I really cannot side with the alarmists who try downplaying the achievements of a Cricketer who has probably been the greatest of his era (Brian Lara and Shane Warne are the only serious contenders I can remember). But, 70 records??? If a Cricketer retires with 5 against his name he should be considered a magnificent player. From that aspect isn't 70 impossible?
Well, the channel did not list his 70 records. So, I decided to juggle my memory, and cross check whatever data I had. And no, I could not come up with 70. But in approximately 2 hours I did manage to list 40 international Cricket records held by Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar.  Still, far too many to be dismissed as fluke, or luck, or hype. So, what was supposed to be a critical appreciation of Sachin Tendulkar's career had to be turned into an impromptu tribute.
Here, listed below, are the 40 Cricket records listed against the Little Master's name. In case there are any corrections to be made, or any further record I may have missed (and of course I must have missed quite a few) kindly let me know through a post. Here goes the list of records:

Mani, respect is always with me for you and many fans who are having larger picture of the game of cricket than small records.!Records have to be for best players, all of them, like Saurav, Rahul, Sehwag, Kapil and all the bowlers, like Prasanna, Kumble, Chandru, Bishan singh Bedi.It is for the team, not an individual.

That is what the result will be if we look at cold statistics, they can be turned and twisted to suit our egos.! Just as laws is an Ass, so are the statistics, they can be used to paint rosy or dreadful picture, the idea is to have a look with dispassionate intellect.! Then records will tell stories of their own.Like a Dhoni who gave credit to the team though his record century was the winner, like  Kumble who kept the cool with monkey- gate, sanity in the locker room, like Rahul, who kept his cool when groupism made him a victim to step down from test captaincy even after winning test series abroad.
By the way, request is for research the records of Kumble, Rahul, Sehwag, Bhajji, Yuvaraj then compare the contributions to the team.Even a wet-grinder works for the family for number of years , wahing machine also works.!

That is the record rajen cherishes much more, for the team and bond between players, Sachin has more contribution for run outs of his partners, more records of slower batting in the last five years, often putting undue pressure on players following to bat after his departure. As to media and commentators, they have to lick the side that is buttered, for their survival, but all said and done, sachin is great, not greatest. And that is my opinion.Take it or leave it.!

If we only talk about age, a look at Sanath Jayasuriya should be an eye opener, he is more agile, better reflexes and quick with his running between wickets, so at 40 he is better than 36 year old Sachin, who for many fans seems indispensable.! Age does not matter, spirit to be in the game for the team matters, sachin is there for the cash, for records, least considerate for his team.It is my opinion, not to please anybody, not to hurt anyone, but that is my opinion.

Often, it is amusing to see the young admirers going for admiration, so thoughtlessly that they do not see the better records of sportsmanship in other players, who have contributed as partners to sachin while he was batting, often shielding him from hostile bowling, bad run decisions, sacrificing their wickets for sachin, how is it that those who gush about sachin and his records, do not see the records of these batsmen who gave their records for this Sachin to have it at their cost.?
By the way, Sachin with his aging body, is not even what he was just about five years before, say from 2004.!He is the only player who was in the team as non-playing injured player, while Sehwag and Yuvaraj had to be out for the same reasons, needless to say, that it was advertisements lobby and tv channels wanted him there as cash cow,?Perfooormance in the recent series against Srilanka is nothing much to talk about records now, in this series, so this diversion.!
