Sam Gagner continues to make and break records

Gagner having the Game(s) of his dreams

It's the Super Bowl weekend, so even I haven't been paying as much attention to hockey as I normally would have.  Besides that, I'm just not a fan of the Edmonton Oilers.  The Battle of Alberta always has me cheering loudly for the Calgary Flames.

However, history is being made, right before my eyes.  The Oilers are hosting the very strong Detroit Red Wings, and at the 2 minute mark of the second period, are leading them 3-1.  Sam Gagner, Edmonton's most recent star, is continuing his jaw dropping performance of a couple of nights ago, scoring two goals and an assist so far in the game.  The jaw dropping part of his performance started Thursday night against the Chicago Blackhawks when he scored EIGHT points in the game.  In less than 3 full periods (CBC calculated it at 52 minutes) Gagner has scored 11 points total.

Unfortunately, he was kept off the scoreboard in the second period, but came very close, grabbing the last shot on goal in that period.

After leading 3-1 at the end of the 1st period, the Oilers found themselves down 4-3 with less than a minute left in regulation.  Initially, Gagner was given an assist on Eberle's tying goal, but the assist was taken away.

They head to OT.
