San Francisco Giants Force Game 7
This season, the Giants fell down 0-2 in the NLDS to the Cincinnati Reds, only to become the first team to come back from 0-2 and win three straight games in Cincinnati to advance to the NLCS. They split the first two games with the Cardinals in San Francisco, only to lose the next two in St. Louis, falling down 1-3 in the series.
They sent Barry Zito to the mound in Game 5 and he responded with his best game since signing that payroll crippling 7-year, $126 million deal. 7 2/3 innings of shutout ball brought the Giants back to San Francisco for Game 6 and a potential Game 7.
Ryan Vogelsong, the feel good story of Major League Baseball last season, continued his remarkable comeback to the big leagues, pitching 7 innings on 1-run ball, striking out a career-high, 9 batters. The Giants scored in the first inning on an RBI groundout by Buster Posey to take an early 1-0 lead, but then broke the game open with a 4-run second inning to push the lead to 5-0, and the Giants never looked back - forcing a Game 7 in their house with their ace headed to the mound.
Matt Cain is due to face Kyle Lohse in the decisive game to see who will represent the NL in the World Series. Marco Scutaro, a deadline acquisition by the Giants, has recorded 5 multi-hit games in the NLCS, tying the record, while batting .458 with 4 RBI. Pablo Sandoval is batting .320 with 2 HR and 5 RBI in the series, as they continue to pick up the slack while Posey has been unable to find his swing.
Can the Giants get it done and clinch their second Series berth in the last three years? Or will Mike Matheny lead his Cardinals squad back in only his first year at the helm.
The game is called for 5:00 PM Pacific / 8:00 PM Eastern. Don't miss a moment.
