Well, there is nothing new here as tonight the Sharks became only the 8th team to be ranked as a number 1 seed and lose to the number 8 seed. As a Sharks fan I saw it coming really. The last part of the season they seemingly lost all that great hockey that got them The Presidents Trophy. The last month of the regular season they actually really stunk. It is hard to imagine that a team with so much talent can become so bad when the playoffs come. They really didn't play bad the last two games, but why didn't they play that hard to begin the series? They knew the Ducks were hot coming in and were a tough physical team. Yes, tough and physical, the key words that don't describe the Sharks, and never really has except for years ago when they were new to the league.
I suppose simply put they don't have the hard nose tough physical players you must have to win the Stanley Cup. Heck, Ryan Clowe was one of their best and most physical players yet he was invisible during the whole series as was Joe Pavelski and many others. They simply lost to a tougher more physical team, and a super-hot goaltender, who the Red Wings will probably light up like a lighthouse.
On the other hand, Nabakov once again was not great in any of these playoff games, although neither was the defense, so what does Doug Wilson do? They have great young players, they went out and got Todd McLellan, who I think is a great coach, they got great blue liners and they couldn't get past round 1 of The Stanley Cup Playoffs. They may all say it was Hiller being a hot goalie, but it was the fact that they need tougher and more hard nosed players, those are the guys who win cups.
