Can Thursday's Cinderellas Keep It Going? [Saturday March Madness Live Thread]

3/20/10 in NCAABB   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

After an amazing Thursday and more pedestrian Friday, the NCAA Tournament moves into the second round today. Five double digit seeds, including buzzer beating Murray State, will attempt to keep their runs going and advance to the Sweet 16. History suggests that at least one of those five, which include St. Mary's, Ohio, Washington, and Old Dominion, will advance. We also have two number one seeds, Kansas and Kentucky, back in action, while BYU and Jimmer Fredette will try to get to Salt Lake City. First, though, they have to get by second seeded Kansas State.

Today's schedule (tip-off times are approximate):

1:05 - (10) St. Mary's vs. (2) Villanova

3:20 - (13) Murray State vs. (5) Butler
3:35 - (14) Ohio vs. (6) Tennessee

5:40- (9) Northern Iowa vs. (1) Kansas
5:50- (11) Washington vs. (3) New Orleans Mexico
5:50- (11) Old Dominion vs. (3) Baylor

8:10- (7) BYU vs. (2) Kansas State
8:20- (9) Wake Forest vs. (1) Kentucky

Q it up here with all of today's action. Will we get another classic tournament day?

This is why I did NOT fill out a bracket this year...parity in college b-ball is HUGE this year...

I think that's it for the upsets today, Kentucky keeps extending their lead and while BYU is within reach, foul troubles and Jimmer doing nothing is not a good combo.

3/20/10   |   Chief_aka_James   |   3307 respect

BYU up 10-0 to start on KSU...

LOL, I'm trying to post on ESPN's message boards but so many people are on I can't (talking about Kansas no doubt).

Now I move my man-love from Ali Farokhmanesh to Jimmer Fredette.

He is, along with being in Kansas City all those years as a Chiefs announcer. I'm partial to Harlan, but I thought his excitement/unbiased throughout. Everyone roots for the underdogs, even an alum of the team they're beating.

A #1 seed (particularly the OVERALL #1 seed) should be able to get by the #9 seed. Plus, keep in mind the #3 seed in that alleged hardest bracket (which admittedly I thought was at the time) is already out.

I may agree with you, but the reason why Kansas lost today had nothing to do with the brackets.

butler makes a huge defensive play on a true freshman, and go to the sweet 16. teams better be happy murray state lost, because they would have been a dangerous team to face

3/20/10   |   kantwistaye   |   4211 respect

And that is why the NBA will always be better than college basketball. That wasn't good defense. That was the worst offensive possession you could possibly have. God that was awful.

Bad ending (for Murray St.) to a great game.

We're efficient as hell. Crapped the bed our past two games though.  If (and its a big if) we get past Cornell, the Kentucky-Wisconsin game will be much better than most would imagine. Wall/Bledsoe are turnover machines and Wisconsin never turns the ball over. Would come down to pace and Wisconsin 3 point shooting.

Villanova needed 8 guys to beat Robert Morris in the first round.  They could've played with 10 guys against St. Mary's and it wouldnt have mattered.  Nova had no answer at all for Samhan and when they tried to double him late, they got burned by the Gaels outside shooting.

I had them going down next round to Baylor anyways, but how does Scottie choose to have one of, if not his worst, two game stretch of his college career here?

Scottie Reynolds goes 4 for 26 shooting in Nova's two games
