Scary Thought: New England Patriots Could Draft Darren McFadden
If you think the Patriots have an unstoppable offense now, just wait until after the 2008 Draft. Todd McShay published his first mock draft (In$ider) and predicts New England will draft Darren McFadden with the second overall pick. Ouch.

That's right, the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots own San Francisco's 1st rounder which if the season ended today would be #2. Good thing Goodell punished the Patriots by removing their own draft pick.

Last week we speculated on who the Miami Dolphins would draft number one next April. Glenn Dorsey was the clear choice by you and McShay agrees. With that in mind, what do you think the Patriots would do with the 2nd?

I was thinking maybe pick up McFadden with their first rounder, and then trade Maroney to the Cowboys for their first rounder, so he could be reunited with Marion Barber, allowing the Cowboys to dump Julius Jones...

He should have thought of that before.

Not saying I disagree, but I don't think he can justify going back and sticking it to them again.

As if it isnt already well-known that Darren McFadden would be the best player available in the draft, how about the Dolphins knowing that the Patriots are picking right behind them.  Wouldnt that be even more incentive to want to take McFadden with the first pick.  I dont care what else they need, passing on McFadden would be like the Trail Blazers passing on Michael Jordan in 1984.

Is McFadden really the best player in the draft? I don't think it's as much of a slam dunk as some people think. Glenn Dorsey is a beast as well, and although the Patriots aren't really in the market for another defensive lineman, he also wouldn't be a bad pick, and is a LOT more useful to the Dolphins.

IMO, McFadden is the bigger and better playmaker between the two.  He can change a game in an instant, either rushing, receiving or passing.  With Ronnie Brown being injured the past two seasons and the receiving corp non-existant after shipping Chris Chambers to San Diego, the Dolphins needs a playmaker on offense that can carry the load.  Glenn Dorsey is a beast but if I'm the Dolphins, I take the risk of letting an inter-divisional team have him.  I dont take that chance with McFadden because if he slides to number 2, you might as well go ahead and pencil the Patriots in as perennial Super Bowl winners

I would tend to say that you're overrating him a bit. Don't get me wrong...he's a great player, and I'm salivating at the thought of him in a Patriots uniform. But I don't think that he's THAT good, to make the Patriots perennial Super Bowl winners.

This year is like the perfect storm for the Patriots. They have all the pieces, and they have them at a very low price. Within the next few years, this team will go through drastic changes, with all of the deferred money that is owed to numerous guys, including TONS to Brady. They're going to experience a huge money crunch soon. I don't think that McFadden himself will be able to correct that.

Nor do I think that the Dolphins are worried about anyone but themselves right now. They can't afford to be worried about a team who could finish an unprecedented 16 games ahead of them this season. They clearly have much bigger fish to fry.

Sure, Brown's been hurt. But I think they still have more pressing needs on the defensive line. Jason Taylor is really all they have, and he will be gone shortly. Their best bet would probably be to trade the pick, and try to stockpile picks in the 1st through 3rd rounds. This team is like the Raiders of last year...they need a LOT more than any one guy can offer them.
