Scott Boras, Alex Rodriguez Pull One of the Most Selfish, Greediest Moves in Sports History
READ MORE:

This was disgusting wasn't it? Alex Rodriguez had 10 days after the World Series to announce he would opt out, yet Scott Boras (and don't think this was A-Rod at all) chose to make this public during Game 4 of the Red Sox World Series Title.

It's narcissistic, pathetic, and vile ... and I liked it. Come on? Whether you're willing to admit it or not, sports is much more fun when there's an abundance of hatred in the air. Although Scott Boras is the lowliest of scum in sports, he does serve a purpose. He also does his job incredibly well, so I'm having trouble criticizing him. After all, what are we talking about this morning. Alex Rodriguez. Point, Boras. Oddly, everyone is directing all their anger and hatred towards Alex who likely had very little to do with this timing.

Speaking of hate, that venom is spewing profusely from New York papers this morning (and from Peter Gammons ... thanks AA for the vid).

Until the end, it was always about A-Rod (Mike Vaccaro, New York Post) - "And yet, as we came to know quickly, and as we learn right to the bitter end, it was always all about A-Rod, is always about A-Rod. It was about his astonishing talent and his astounding ego. It was about watching the greatest regular-season player of his generation and one of the most star-crossed October players of all time. And if this is indeed his final dash out the side door - and if we are to take the Yankees at their word, it is absolutely that - then it comes as part of a perfect A-Rod opera, a me-first symphony that would be appalling if it weren't so predictable."

A-Rod opts out of remaining 3 years on Yankee contract (Mark Feinsand and Bill Madden, New York Daily News) - "Stay-rod? More like A-dios Rod. The Yankees were hoping to keep Alex Rodriguez in pinstripes with a massive contract extension, but A-Rod never gave them that chance, opting out of the final three years of his contract yesterday."

A-Rod opts out of deal with Yankees (Peter Abraham,  Journal News) - "When the Yankees clinched a playoff berth on Sept. 26, Alex Rodriguez eagerly drenched his teammates in champagne and said he wanted to stay with the team for the rest of his career. "This feels like home. It's hard to believe that I played for another two organizations," Rodriguez said then. "So much has happened to me here - adversity, some success - that I feel like anything but New York feels weird for me now." But yesterday Rodriguez turned his back on the Yankees, informing the team that he would opt out of the final three years of his contract and become a free agent. If the team's insistence that they would not pursue him in the open market is true, Rodriguez's tenure with the Yankees is over after four tumultuous seasons."

Lastly, and you may have caught this on Mike & Mike this morning but an emailer chimed in and blamed this on the media, saying that "they" could have chosen not to release this information. I don't necessarily buy that, it would have come out and you might as well be the first to announce it. Curious as to your thoughts on that statement. Scott Boras, GFY.

I think he might get less money than the Yankees were willing to offer him.

I really struggle to come up with anger over this.... all I have to say is who cares when he announces it?  Did anyone really care about last night anyway (outside of Sox's fans)?  If he had waited until tomorrow he would've had the spotlight to himself so now we can have two annoying stories splitting time.  Quite frankly, I'd rather have it that way.

It's crazy that A-Rod opted out just minutes before the Boston Red Sox won the World Series.  His timing was flawless!  The Bronx is officially burning and now A-Rod just poured gas all over the fire.  Check out my thoughts on where he might go next at http://michaelnewjr.com/2007/10/28/alex-rodriguez-opts-out-of-252-million-10-year-contract-with-yankees/

that is kinda what I was thinking. You can replace one of the best hitters in baseball, but his salary might have gotten too high. I see him in the same situation as he was in Texas, unless Boston can find a way to sign him.
