We interrupt the early stages of Red Sox World Series celebration to bring you some rather significant Yankees/MLB news. Alex Rodriguez notified the New York Yankees he will be opting out of his contract.

"Rodriguez's decision means he will become a free agent and be able to negotiate with all 30 clubs. Rodriguez's bombshell move will shake up the entire winter for the Yankees -- who had hoped to retain him with a big extension -- as well as other big-market clubs that will now pursue him."

Earlier this year the Yankees said they would not negotiate with him if this scenario presented itself. We shall see.

Let the speculation begin about his next destination and how much he'll end up with. OK, back to the World Series. More on this tomorrow.

as much as i want Alex to die of something very painful, i will have to defend him in this case...

It is not Alex's fault that the media is all over him about what and when his decision will be. The thing is the sooner he made the decision, the better for the Yankees, so the they know if they need a Third baseman they can/should look for one in free agents.

It's not his fault he choose to announce his Opt-Out during game four of the World Series, when they Red Sox were about to win??? You couldn't be more wrong, he knew what he was doing and exactly why he was doing it. He wanted more people to talk about him, he is a selfish asshole who doesn't belong in the great sport of baseball.

It is true that the phone call from Boras was made to Cashman at 10:30 pm. However it says no regard to which A-Rod himself actualy told Boras that he wanted to opt out.

So as far as we know he could have made the decision at 8am.
