How does a car just explode into flames halfway down the stretch? That's strange.
RIP Scott.
The explosion was apparently caused by a blower explosion that split the fuel lines and sprayed oil from the camshaft valley directly underneath. It is a typical occurrence with supercharged engines and especially in Funny Cars. They use an explosion girdle to contain it, but as you saw it didn't stop the destruction. It was bad luck and fate that the car crashed at the end of the track. The runoff area at Englishtown has been a major complaint by the Top Fuel and Funny Car drivers for many years. It is too short and the concrete wall that Scott hit should have been removed years ago.
