There were two Elite 8 matchups today, and 2 Big East teams advanced to the Final 4. It's not really a shock, as both of them were #1 seeds, but here's the quick recap, in case you missed them. The more exciting game was Villanova's thrilling 78-76 win over Pitt. Villanova jumped out to an early lead, but that wasn't really a surprise at all. Pitt had struggled early in several of their tournament games, only to obliterate their opponents down the stretch.
This time, it was not meant to be. They caught up, and were even winning with less than 3 minutes to go. The game was tied with seconds to go, as Levance Fields hit 2 clutch free throws. But then, Scottie Reynolds put in a running layup with .5 seconds left, sealing the win for the Wildcats.
Villanova will move on to face the winner of tomorrow's game between Oklahoma and North Carolina.
In the earlier game, UConn came away with an 82-75 win over Missouri. Aside from a few brief moments early in the second half, the Huskies led the entire way. They will play either Louisville or Michigan State next round.
