Scouts Inc Ranks NFL QB's 1 to 64: Tom Brady 1st, Tony Romo 4th, David Garrard 10th
by CriticalFanatic

I thought we could use something to bicker about alongside the Mitchell Report today. So here we go again, the never ending 'Ranking QB's' debate that usually ends in someone calling another an idiot for disagreeing with him and then someone ranking another's mom higher than Ben Roethlisberger. It's disturbing and fun all at once. Thank you to Scouts Inc. for giving us some new fodder this morning.

ESPN's Scouts Inc. has provided their opinion (key word) of the Top 64 NFL QB's right now. Briefly breaking it down:

- Tom Brady is 1, Peyton Manning is 2, Brett Favre 3
- Tony Romo 4, Big Ben 5, Carson Palmer 6
- Donovan McNabb still at 9, David Garrard at 10
- Derek Anderson 12
- Eli Manning 17 vs Jason Campbell 18
- Rex Grossman 25, just behind Chad Pennington and just ahead of Tarvaris Jackson.

Some perspective for you guys to consider. There's no doubt we're watching three of the best QB's to ever play the game. Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Brett Favre. Think about that when you consider your opinion of Tony Romo, Ben Roethlisberger and Carson Palmer. We may very well be underestimating how good those guys are because we're comparing them to Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

Without further ado, let the arguing begin ...

1. Tom Brady

Starter, New England Patriots
Brady is a future Hall of Fame QB who is having a career season. He leads the NFL in touchdowns and completion percentage and has a league-best QB rating of 123.4. There is no longer a debate over who the best QB in the NFL is -- Brady has moved ahead of Manning.
"

At least someone actually gets it. I don't understand all the people who still think Peyton Manning is the better QB. It's just laughable.

And then as soon as I compliment them on their wisdom, I scroll down and see Vince Young at 15...clearly they were on crack at that point. He's a terrible QB...simply awful.

Give Peyton Manning Randy Moss and it'd be ridiculous. Still not sure who I'd put better, but I give the nudge to Peyton all things being equal around them.

How about we compromise, and give him Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne.

What people fail to realize is that this Patriots receiving corps is really no better than what Peyton has had in Indy for years. And Peyton has NEVER had to deal with receivers as bad as what Brady had for the first 5-6 years of his career. Before this season, people were saying that the Colts still had better WR's than the Pats. Now, people want to change their tune, and say that Randy Moss is the best WR in football again...after a few games with Brady on the team. Coincidence? I think not.

Want to know how it is when all things are equal?

Manning with great WR's: Great QB, sets records
Brady with great WR's: Better QB, breaks Manning's records

Manning without great WR's: 6 INT's against the Chargers
Brady without great WR's: Wins Super Bowls, finishes near the top of the league in all relevant QB stats

It's not even close, really.

Right, but we're talking about this year. If this was last year, Scouts Inc would have had Peyton #1. Now without Marvin Harrison for Peyton and Randy Moss added to Brady's corps I find it a bit irrational that we're shifting our line of thinking.

I don't expect you to ever give Peyton credit. You're a Patriots fan. If I was a Patriots fan I'd slobber all over Brady too and give no thought to anyone even being in his league. No fault on your part there, but we're totally underestimating Randy Moss' influence. When he wants to play, he's the best receiving in league history alongside Jerry Rice. No wonder Montana is also atop all-time QB rankings.

Peyton has a defensive head coach.

Brady has a offensive genius as a head coach.

But Brady this year is the best QB.

Do ONE of those things, and it's still clear that Brady is the better QB. I'm not saying Brady is better because he's had one better year. I'm saying he's better because he has had a BETTER CAREER, if you consider what he has had to work with. Reggie Wayne AND Marvin Harrison have been better than the Patriots' #1 WR's from 2002-2006, no doubt about it. And Peyton's stats (aside from the one anomaly year) weren't THAT far ahead of Brady. And whether people want to admit it or not, he really does choke big-time in big games. Take all of those factors into consideration, and the choice is quite simple.

"but we're totally underestimating Randy Moss' influence. When he wants to play, he's the best receiving in league history alongside Jerry Rice"

Nice qualifier there, but I guarantee you weren't saying that before this season. NO ONE was calling Randy the best ANYTHING until he came onto the Pats.

Since when is Belichick an offensive genius? He's a defensive guy all the way. He knows how to run an offense, but his "genius" is obviously on the other side of the ball.

I believe a coach that can get a  team mentally prepared on the offensive side(week after week in the NFL) and have the brains to find the right offensive coordinator to fit his system has some justification for an offensive genius.

Brian Bilick is known for his offensive genius in Minnesota but separated from his coach and team in Minnesota his offense is poop in a bag.

But hey what do I know according to you I know nothing because I'm a Dolphins fan. So take it as you want.

I'm not saying you know nothing. I've NEVER said that, nor would I. But I believe that your statements that you made earlier in a backhanded attempt to discredit Brady were borderline inaccurate, and at the very least, misleading.

Outside of the top 6, we're really not watching anyone great though.  Brady and Manning are really making up and covering up some of the horrible QB play.  That said, I can't wait for this next generation of QB seeing how almost every single one of them is a fan of Brett Favre.  Its going to be fun to watch.

This list became laughable as soon as they ranked Vince Young at 15th.  He isn't even top 20 worthy.  And I know he's hurt, but Jake Delhomme is better than 20th.

This isn't a ranking of the best QB this year...it's a ranking of who's had the best career among active QBs, with a little more weighting to this year beacuse it is fresh in Scout's collective minds.  Who, friggin' cares???  I'm interested in the best QB this year or the best QB of all time

This is worthless in terms of "greatest QB" argument backup (unless, of course, you all want to debate which QB has had the best career with a little more weighting to this year...than go knock yourselves out).
