Time to get to work! Seahawks finalize roster
The first cuts to reach 75 wasn't all that surprising, as the Seahawks said goodbye to WR Perez Ashford, LB Kyle Knox, TE Jameson Konz, TE Andrei Lintz, LS Kyle Nelson, DT Martin Parker, LB Craig Wilkins, WR Donavon Kemp, CB Will Blackmon, and WR Brett Swain. Perhaps more disappointing than surprising, "Tha Monstar" Aussie DT out of Alabama was placed on IR. Going on the PUP list are DE Greg Scruggs, CB Tharold Simon, and WR Percy Harvin (who didn't see that one coming when they signed him?)
The final cuts on Saturday included FB Michael Robinson; considering he was a veteran leader on the team and an unsung hero in the Seahawks dominant running game, it's reasonable to think his departure foreshadows re-signing of a secondary Seattle would like to keep together.
Joining Mike Rob on the path out of Seattle are DT Clinton McDonald, DB Ron Parker,WR Bryan Walters, G Ryan Seymour, G Rishaw Johnson, TE Sean McGrath, TE Darren Fells, LB Ty Powell, DT Dewayne Cherrington, DT Michael Brooks, DE Deshawn Shead, DT Jaye Howard, WR Chris Harper, DT Sealver Siliga, WR Arceto Clark, DB Winston Guy, G Jared Smith, TE Cooper Helfet, and QB Brady Quinn. CB Antoine Winfield was also on the chopping block, but opted to retire. WR Phil Bates didn't survive this round of cuts either, which surprised me after I'd heard Robinson was cut, as Bates was being used as both WR and FB.
Seahawks Practice Squad
Returning to the Seahawks by way of the practice squad are Michael Brooks, Cooper Helfet (surprising, after his last performance), Ty Powell, Ryan Seymour, DeShawn Shead, Sealver Siliga, Jared Smith, and Bryan Walters.
Their time may have come to an abrupt end in Seattle, but many players will get another chance to pursue their NFL dreams. So far, we know Kyle Knox, Winston Guy, and Will Blackmon will be playing for Gus Bradley across the country in Jacksonville. Ron Parker, Jaye Howard, and Sean McGrath go to the Chiefs. Jerrod Johnson will be on the Bears' practice squad. WR Chris Harper signed a 3-year deal with SF, and we all heard about Brady Quinn going to the Jets
While most of the weekend centered around trimming down the rosters, the Seahawks also traded an undisclosed draft pick to the Jaguars for DT D'Anthony Smith.
Now that most of the business end of things is behind us, it's time to get down to business on the field. Hopefully the Hawks can stay healthy, out of trouble, and keep improving. I'm ready for some football!
