Blog Photo - Seahawks sign FS Earl Thomas to long-term extensionIn what has been the best news to hit Seattle amidst the Mariners' disappointing performance so far this baseball season, Scot McCloughan's resignation, and losing Golden Tate, as well as several of the Super Bowl Champion players to free agency, the Seahawks have locked up free safety Earl Thomas for four more years. According to reports, the deal is worth $40 million, $27.725M guaranteed, at $8.925M apy.

E.T. is worth every penny of that. In his 5-year career, he's a 3x Pro-Bowler as well as being named 3x All-Pro. And he's only 24 years old (25 in May.) He had 105 tackles last season, and 5 interceptions.

While most media outlets refer to  Seattle's defense as lead by Richard Sherman - who is also reportedly nearing an extension - Earl Thomas is the true heart and soul of the squad. As a Seahawks fan, I'm thrilled he was the first of the duo to be locked up.
