Sean Miller Turns Down $14 Million Contract From Arizona

Apparently No One Wants To Coach Arizona (UPDATE)

UPDATE: Right after I posted this, Miller reconsidered and decided to accept the job. Thanks for ruining the post, Miller.

Arizona's basketball program is definitely not at the level of North Carolina, Duke or UCLA, but it's definitely one of the better programs in the country. However, it looks like the program's legacy begins and ends with Lute Olson, because no one seems to want to coach there.

Today, Xavier's Sean Miller turned down a reported seven-year contract worth $14 million from Arizona. Miller definitely has a good thing going at Xavier right now, and a potential Final Four team next year. But it's still odd that Arizona can't pull in a hot young coach. In fact, they can't even pull in a coach, period, let alone a young one. Tim Floyd of USC also rejected a job offer from Arizona last week too.

What makes all of this even more surprising is that Arizona - which barely made the NCAA Tournament this year - still wound up making the Sweet 16, which is normally considered a bad year for the school. Most people would be lining up to coach a school that even in rough years gets to the Sweet 16.

Plus it's not like Arizona doesn't have the boosters and credibility to make things happen. Arizona's a program that has produced pros like Andre Iguodala, Gilbert Arenas, Steve Kerr, Richard Jefferson, Mike Bibby, Jason Terry, Sean Elliot and many others.

In theory, everything is there for Arizona to be one of the premier jobs in the country, and yet for some reason it isn't.

I'm not sure what it's going to take, but if Arizona doesn't get someone in soon, the program could quickly crumble into pieces. Although, I guess if they want to make a splash, they could just hire David Hasselhoff, who is apparently one of the biggest Arizona fans out there.
