Mandatory Credit: Chuck Cook - USA TODAY SportsThere have been a lot of rumors about where Sean Payton would end up.

The Cowboys were one popular rumor, thanks to Payton's Texas roots, and the fact that his children attend school in the Dallas area.

It turns out that Payton isn't going anywhere.

Next year, when his suspension is over, he's coming right back to the Saints, where he has coached since 2006.

Payton and the Saints have agreed to a 5-year extension, keeping him in New Orleans. He has already led the Saints to one Super Bowl win, and the team most likely has a short window of opportunity in which they might be able to contend for one more.

We'll see if Payton can once again turn around the Saints, after they had a miserable year without him.

Pete Prisco of CBS says that Payton's arrogance is what made the Saints the team that they were, and that Payton will bring it back with him when he returns.

I believe the Saints are still a very talented team, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Payton should be able to get them back to the playoffs where they belong, and perhaps make one more Super Bowl run.

Honestly, as long as Jerry Jones is in charge, regardless of one Super Bowl wins, I don't think any coaching job in Dallas is ever secure.

I just wonder how many wins Jason Garret would have to have, if he gets in the playoffs to feel confident his job is safe.  Does he have to somehow pull a Super Bowl win out of his hat in order for him to be back?  Or does making the playoffs make him safe?

Super Bowl or nothing.....I am just wondering who Jerry is courting right now.

I really can't believe people actually believed the "rumor" of him going to Dallas.  He and Jerry Jones would never get along.  Sean Peyton is right where he should be...with the Saints and Drew Brees.

i think the fact that he has roots there, his kids go to school there, etc added credibility to the rumor. I thought the same thing about him and Jones - I figured, if he went and it was going to work out, Jerry was going to have to back off a bit.

There was a collective sigh in Dallas yesterday....Folks were really hoping to get him here.
