Seattle Seahawks and Marshawn Lynch agree to multi-year deal

Seahawks lock up Lynch in the 11th hour

The Seattle Seahawks and Marshawn "Money" Lynch have finally come to an agreement, and not a moment too soon.

Lynch, coming off the best season of his career, will be guaranteed $18m in a 4-year, $31-million deal finally agreed upon by both parties Sunday evening; the day before the Hawks would have otherwise been forced to slap the franchise tag on him.

This will open up options for them to use their tag on another one of the potential UFAs Seattle is hopeful not to lose. Those players included on the list are Red Bryant and Michael Robinson (both of whom Seattle is trying to re-sign), Raheem Brock, David Hawthorne, Anthony Hargrove, John Carlson, Atari Bigby, and Matt McCoy, among others.

Seahawks veterans also coming up on free agency but unlikely to re-sign are: Leroy Hill; doubtful after his third and latest arrest, and Justin Forsett, whose lack of productivity will be a factor.

Marshawn Lynch rushed for a career high 1204-yds and 12 touchdowns last season. If he can keep even close to those numbers and stay on the track he found physically and mentally, the Seahawks just made a great deal with a young power back with a few  years left in the tank.

No word yet on whether Skittles were included in the deal or not.

I'm seeing some rumblings on twitter about them tagging Carlson and then trading him at the draft. I'm fully convinced that he'll be on another team this year, simply due to the fact that I bought my husband his jersey this past Christmas. Whether that means they'll tag him and use him as leverage or just let him go into free agency remains to be seen.

I would love to hold on to Hawthorne, however that has to happen. I also think they might try to tag Robinson  if a deal doesn't seem possible. And if Bryant plays like he did last year, I wouldn't be upset if he's the one who ends up with the franchise tag. Other than that, I won't be heartbroken to see most anybody else on the list go.

John Schneider did say that they feel that most of the pieces are in place and they'll try to hold on to as many as they can, which is odd to hear after the parade of players in and out of Seattle over the past couple of years. It makes sense though.

*edit* - Oh, and I'm not seeing anywhere stating that Bigby has re-signed as of yet...they are working toward it though.

John Schneider?  wow, dem Duke Boys get aroundwink

I Would Be Surprised If They Use The Tag This Year. They Will Secure a Contract For Michael Robinson, However I Feel That PC & JS And Co. Will Be Going In A Different Direction With Red Bryant. I Don't See Him Returning For The Seahawks This Season.
