Seattle Sonics And Clay Bennett Officially Moving To Oklahoma City
I Hear The Oklahoma Cow Testicles Is Available

The Sonics are now officially free to move to Oklahoma, and just to rub it in they're already stating that they're going to Oklahoma next season on their web site.

In case you missed it, Seattle will be paid $45 million up front and Sonics owner Clay Bennet will pay an additional $30 million in five years if the city is unable to secure another NBA team. Dictator Stern released a statement saying that the NBA will look for a replacement team for Seattle but I seriously doubt that.

Either way you look at this sordid affair, both sides were guilty of nefarious activities. Bennett and crew were always planning on moving the team to Oklahoma, while Sonics supporters did some less than awesome things to try and keep the team.

But now that the dust has settled, what will the Sonics be named once they move to Oklahoma? If you think Bennett will keep the name "Sonics" after this complete mess, you're out of you mind.

In fact, the team is already taking suggestions. Three other names they have are the Thunder, the Thunderbirds, and the Twisters. They sure like thunder in Oklahoma for some reason. But, you can also add in your own suggestion, which I advise you to do.

And to help you, let's take a look at some of the suggestions floating around the web today.
  • POINT GUARD has died of typhoid
  • Oklahoma City Trails of Tears
  • The Oklahoma Dirt Farmers
  • The Basketball Team Formerly Known as the Sonics
  • The Seattle Runoffs
  • SoonerSonics
  • The Only Black People In Oklahoma City
  • The Flaming Oklahoma Rainbow Pansies
  • Oklahoma City Backstabbers
  • The Oklahoma GoodLuckGettingAFreeAgentToComeToYourCrackerAssCity
Personally, I'm partial to "POINT GUARD has died of typhoid." Who wouldn't want to play for a team with that name?

Feel free to add your suggestions below.

They should've put something in the lawsuit about having to re-name the team the "Bombers" if they moved to Oklahoma City...that would've kept them in Seattle. Oh well.

Finally - a city that had the guts to say to owners, the NBA and all the overpaid players - "we are not going to support your ass".  Pay your way - or at least pay your share or take a hike.  Cities/counties give teams arenas exactly to their specs (i.e. Orlando) and then in 10-15 years they are unhappy with a building that is nowhere close to outdated or antiquated and expects the city/county to foot the majority of a new arena (i.e. Orlando) and the city/county does it (i.e. Orlando).  The Sonics will stay in Oklanhoma City until that city gets tired of them and off they will go.

I predict that OKC surpasses the Indiana Pacers arrests per season in three short years. What else is there to do?

How do you get arrested in OKC?  Theres not going to be any speeding tickets, no random alcohol checks in the middle of nowhere so no DUI's.

Oh who needs stupid things like education funding, infrastructure maintenance and other social services when a sports team needs an arena built. A arena that will not have ticket prices that the people the arena/stadium is supposed to be serving will afford.

As much as people clown L.A. for not having football I am proud of L.A. because the city learned and stuck to it's principles. When it won the bid for the Olympics of '84, they saw the disaster that was Montreal and realized that the city/county should not be on the hook. So when Georgia and Al asked their respective cities/counties they said no. (Ironically the Raiders could have had a great private deal at Hollywood Park Racetrack, but instead they went back to Oakland, and we can see how that is working out)  Since 1984 only the Honda Center had public money, but that was Orange County with the help from Disney and Arrowhead Water. The Staples Center was all private money and the Lakers seem very happy with it.

Okay I have wasted enough of your time with this mess.

How about Oklahoma City Trippers?  After all Clay Bennett really tripped on his bank account just to prove his civic-mindedness.

Shawn Kemp sure would have had a lot fewer children if he'd been playing in Oklahoma.
