Blog Photo - Seneca Wallace gets injured, Packers turn to 3rd stringer Scott TolzienThings were already looking bleak for the Green Bay Packers with Aaron Rodgers hurt and Seneca Wallace starting at quarterback for today's game at home with the Eagles. It got worse today as Wallace left the game with the groin injury in the first quarter, leaving the position to one Scott Tolzien. Who? Well, Tolzien was the starter at Wisconsin before Russell Wilson. He's hung around the periphery of the NFL on various practice squads ever since. Today may have been the first time in 3 years that Tolzien was active for an NFL game.

All things considered, he wasn't that terrible, going 24/39 for 280 yards and a touchdown. The Packers were able to move the ball. However, he did throw two picks, one a disaster in the red zone in the first half. The defense though were the culprit in a 27-13 loss to the Eagles. Nick Foles threw 3 touchdowns, two of them deep in double coverage that somehow got through.

With that, Green Bay is 5-4 and now a game behind Detroit in the division. With the caveat that I'm possibly the most pessimistic person alive, the Packers season appears over. There are just too many injuries and ineffective play on both sides of the ball to overcome, especially with the division lead officially lost.

UPDATE: As reported by Adam Schefter, Tolzien has been announced as the starter next week against the Giants. That sound you here is Giants fans rejoicing.
