Thanks to the NFL Network, dorks like myself can watch nearly every minute of Senior Bowl practice taking place this week in Mobile, AL. Saturday's game pits most of the top senior NFL draft prospects against one another, although the practices are usually given greater importance to the competition itself. The most notable event this week may have occurred before anyone took the practice field. Hawaii QB Colt Brennan, last seen scrapped off the Sugar Bowl turf, weighed in at a meager 185 lbs. Yikes. That makes him the frailest quarterback prospect by a good 30 pounds. I've never thought Brennan was going to make it at the next level, but now I'm just concerned for his safety.
Brennan's draft status will likely be one of the most interesting stories to follow heading into draft day. Prior to the Georgia exploitation, Colt was considered a possible 1st round pick by a few scouts and a 1st day pick at the very least. I'm not convinced you can count on a first day selection anymore, as his time in Mobile has been less than impressive thus far.
Clearly, he'll gain some weight with professional condition, but no quarterback that slightly-built have succeed in the current physical-freak-NFL. We'll see how he fares the rest of the week, but it appears his weight might not be his only concern.
Still very early, and we'll touch on the draft (one of my favorite events of the year) throughout the next few months, but I'm curious what your prediction on Brennan's draft pick is right now.
